A Dangerous Game with a Witch
The play “The Konotop Witch” – is a bold modern interpretation of the satiricalfantastic story by Hryhorii Kvitka-Main’yanenko. This mystical phantasmagoria takes the audience to the small Ukrainian town of Konotop, where the newly elected sotnik Mykyta Zabrikha has just arrived. He decides that his high status will help him win the heart of the beauty Olena, whom he has unsuccessfully courted before.
Mykyta Zabrikha decides, just in case, to ask for help from the witch Yavdokha. But she – is a capricious creature, used to acting solely by her own rules. The witch's intervention triggers a chain of events that gradually leads the story to a completely different, gloomy ending. Was it worth it?
